Nominate before you need them

You pick your buddy during setup, long before a lock ever happens. Changing them takes 48 hours to come into effect, so at the moment of temptation you can't swap in an account you control. The delay is what keeps the request honest.

Ask in your own words

Lockade composes the request and hands it to you as a link. You send it yourself, through WhatsApp or iMessage or whatever you already use. We pay no messaging bill, and your buddy installs nothing.

They open the link in a browser, sign in once, and grant. There's no duration to choose and nothing to configure. Ignoring the request is a valid answer too; the lock simply stays shut.

And if nobody answers

Five minutes of silence and two fallbacks appear: scan the medication box, or read a short piece about why the dose matters. Both are limited on purpose, and neither is faster than taking the tablet.

What they can see

  • Your display name
  • Which slots you logged or missed, and when
  • Your current streak
  • The unlock requests you sent them

What they never see

  • Any medication name, dose or schedule
  • Any condition, or anything that implies one
  • Which apps you chose to restrict
  • Anything at all happening on your device

This isn't a permission you can grant by mistake. Your buddy only ever sees slot-level adherence, and medication names never reach our servers at all. Your schedule does sync, without the names, so that a lost phone doesn't cost you it.

Let's answer your questions

No. They open your link in a browser, sign in with Google or Apple once, and grant. Most end up downloading it anyway, but nothing requires them to.
You can't. Requests only ever go to your currently nominated buddy, and nominating a new one takes 48 hours to take effect. At the moment you'd want a sock puppet, you can't create one.
No. A buddy has exactly one power: granting an unlock you asked for. They cannot add apps to your list, change your schedule, or restrict anything.
No. They're only notified when you send them a request. Everything else is pull-only. If they want to know how you're doing, they open the dashboard themselves.
Any time, in the app. The change takes effect after the cooling-off period, which also means a removed buddy keeps their view until it lands.
Lockade still works solo. Without a nominated buddy the fallback unlocks are offered to you directly, without the five-minute wait.
