Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Lockade mobile application, the accountability buddy portal, and the website at lockade.app (together, the "Service"), operated by Dekode (Pty) Ltd ("Dekode", "we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't, please don't use the Service.

1. Lockade is not medical care

This is the most important term here. Lockade is a reminder and self-discipline tool. It does not provide medical advice, does not recommend medications, doses or schedules, and is not a medical device.

Do not rely on Lockade as your only safeguard for medication that is critical to your health. Notifications can fail, phones run out of battery, operating systems change, and software has bugs. Always follow the directions given by your doctor or pharmacist, and never change how you take a medication because of something this app did or didn't do.

2. Who may use it

You must be 18 or older, and Lockade is intended for people managing their own medication. It is not a parental control product, not employee monitoring, and not device management software. You choose your own restrictions on your own device, and you choose your own accountability buddy.

3. Your account

You sign in with Google or Apple. You're responsible for keeping access to that account secure, and for what happens under it. Tell us at support@lockade.app if you think someone else has access.

4. The lockout, and what it can and can't do

Lockade restricts only apps you select yourself. On iPhone this uses Apple's Screen Time framework; on Android it uses an accessibility service that observes which app comes to the foreground. Both depend on permissions you grant and can revoke at any time in your device settings.

We make no promise that the lockout is unbreakable. It is friction by design. There are documented ways out (logging the dose, a buddy grant, the limited fallback unlocks, and uninstalling the app), and there will be undocumented ones too. Adherence remains your responsibility.

5. Accountability buddies

Nominating a buddy is optional, and doing so is what authorises us to share your adherence data with that person. They can see your display name, your streaks, which dose slots you logged or missed and when, and the unlock requests you sent them. They cannot see medication names, doses, conditions, which apps you restrict, or anything else on your device.

Changing or removing your buddy takes effect after a cooling-off period. This is an anti-circumvention feature, and it means a removed buddy keeps their view until the change lands. Please choose someone you trust with the fact that you take medication.

If you act as someone else's buddy: granting an unlock is a favour, not an obligation, and ignoring a request is always a valid answer.

6. Fair use

Don't use the Service to monitor or coerce another person, don't try to break, overload or reverse-engineer it, and don't use it in any way that breaks the law. We may suspend accounts that do.

7. Fees

Lockade's core features (reminders, the lockout, one accountability buddy and unlimited unlocks by logging your dose) are free. If we introduce paid features we'll say so clearly before you're charged, and paid features will never include buying your way out of a lock.

8. Availability

We'll try to keep the Service running, but we don't guarantee uptime and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. Cloud sync depends on third-party providers (see the Privacy Policy) and on your internet connection.

9. Your content and our software

Anything you enter stays yours. Medication names and scanned barcodes live only on your device; uninstalling Lockade removes them. Your schedules and adherence history sync to your account without the names, and are deleted with the account (see the Privacy Policy). The app itself, its design and its code remain ours, and we grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use it.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dekode is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the Service, including any loss arising from a missed dose, a failed reminder, a lockout that did or did not apply, or data that failed to sync. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Ending it

You can stop using Lockade at any time by uninstalling it, and you can delete your account from within the app. We may terminate access if you materially breach these terms. Deletion is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and continuing to use the Service after that means you accept them.
